2. Ripley’s Believe it or Not - San Antonio

Ripley’s Believe It or Not! San Antonio offers a collection of unique attractions, including rare artifacts, mind-bending illusions, lifelike wax figures, and interactive experiences for family entertainment.

The key attractions include:

  • Ripley’s Believe It or Not! displays over 1,200 unbelievable artifacts, interactive games, and stories about people and places that are hard to believe are true. The attraction features 600 exhibits challenging beliefs, with genuine shrunken heads, historical artifacts, and oddities. A limited-time gallery showcases microscopic art by microsculptor Willard Wigan.

  • Ripley’s Illusion Lab offers a unique experience with optical illusions and interactive challenges. Visitors can explore a world of optical trickery and unusual perspectives, engaging their senses. The lab combines education and entertainment, testing visitors’ brains with mind-bending illusions.

Contemporary Art Museum and Galleries in San Antonio

San Antonio has several contemporary art museums and galleries. These contemporary art destinations host interactive and immersive exhibitions from time to to time:

  • Southdown Art District: The Southdown Art District includes the neighborhoods of Collins Garden, King William, Lavaca, Lone Star, and Roosevelt Park. There are lots of art related events organised each year, for example, Southtown, is home to the city’s longest running Art-walks, which are held on the First Friday and Second Saturday. There is also an annual open house celebration “A Day in Southtown” each year.

  • San Antonio Museum of Art: Visitors can explore 5,000 years of art, people, and culture at the San Antonio Museum of Art. The museum is renowned for the most comprehensive ancient Greek, Roman, and Egyptian art collection in the southern United States. In the contemporary galleries, works of internationally recognized artists share prominence with notable Texas and regional art. In 2022, San Antonio Museum of Art hosted ‘La Malinche: Traitor/Savior, An Immersive Performance with Nathan Felix’, an immersive opera experience.

  • The McNay Art Museum: The McNay Art Museum is a contemporary art museum and was the first modern art museum in Texas. It regularly hosts interactive and immersive art exhibitions.

  • Blue Star Contemporary: Located in the Southdown Art District, Blue Star Contemporary is an art institution and gallery featuring works by emerging and established artists from around the world, with a focus on contemporary art.

  • Artpace San Antonio: Artpace San Antonio is a contemporary art gallery that features works by regional, national, and international artists with a focus on experimentation and innovation in art.

  • AnArte Gallery: AnArte Gallery specializes in contemporary art with a strong emphasis on local Texas-based artists.

  • Sala Diaz: Sala Diaz is an art space dedicated to creative experiments.
